Gentry Springers is a small family of dogs who are home raised. They are played with, loved and handled daily. Each puppy, is temperament tested as to their potential behavior, and placed accordingly. Strong suggestions will be made as to the appropriate puppy for your family. I have the right to refuse to place an individual into a home I feel is unsatisfactory.
I want the puppy you take home to be perfect for your needs.
I have been in springers since 1974, and feel I have a large amount of knowledge in the genetics of this breed. I plan every breeding based on the parents, grandparents, etc., and the knowledge of what is behind them. I share the goals of all ethical breeders to produce healthy, happy, correct springer type and above all a dependable temperament. When you purchase a pet puppy from me, it will be required to be spayed or nurtured around 9 months of age. That is to ensure that someone without the knowledge or background in genetics, or, my family of Springer’s will not unintentionally produce problems. It is hard enough with a vast store of knowledge to avoid the pitfalls of genetics'. At my discretion I will hold the registration papers on the puppies until a signed document is received from the vet stating the said puppy was spayed or nurtured. Then I will send the registration papers promptly.
Prior to sale, all puppies are up to date on shots, worming, and will be microchipped (see below). Most puppies are born with worms and are routinely wormed starting at 3 weeks, because of their life cycle not all worms can be eliminated by time of sale. A stool sample should be taken to your vet, at the time of your first visit and checked. Each puppy's temperament is tested to determine what type of personality it might develop. That is no guarantee of what will happen as an adult. Once it leaves my home it is up to you to develop the individual temperament. I will be available throughout the puppy's life for help and support, but you must give me the chance to do so. Anything you do not know how to control or understand you must contact me. After more than 40 years working with springers I probably can help with most problems.
Eng. Springer Spaniels can make excellent family companions, but are not for all family’s. They crave attention, and can be quite a pest at times. The bench type springer is moderate in energy but require a lot of exercise. The can be very intelligent and will figure out how to get you to do what they want. Formal obedience training is highly recommended. You should be prepared to establish yourself as the leader of the pack, using quiet authority, positive reinforcement, but never using violence. I also suggest very strongly that you go to puppy kindergarten classes with the puppy. It helps in socialization and gets the puppy out of the house and around other dogs. Like your kids, one needs to provide all types of environments for a well stable, adult dog, able to enjoy traveling, and going to the vet., groomer, or anywhere else you may wish to take him.
